Summer Texas State Road Trip Part III: Padre Island & San Antonio – August 2019

Every summer, The Padre Island National Seashore does ridley turtle releases. Click HERE for more details on this wonderful event.

This had been on my bucket list for a couple of years. You cannot predict the timing since you cannot predict when turtles will hatch and be ready to be released. We were leaving Corpus Cristi that morning, and I had prayed they would announce a public release so I would be able to see it. And low and behold, they did. It was the last release of 2019.

So we were up before the crack of dawn to get in line and walk down to the seashore. They start them out a few feet away, so when they come back to nest, they will remember where to go. They also protect them from the birds as they make their journey to the ocean.

This made my year to see this. It was a very memorable experience.

After the early morning turtle release, we headed to the next leg of our trip, San Antonio.
